After gaining my BA (Hons) in
Fine Art at Central Saint Martins,
University of the Arts, London and my PhD and Teaching Accreditation by
Portfolio both from the University of Kent
at Canterbury, I joined the Creative and Cultural Industries (CCI) Faculty at Portsmouth University in November
2006, where I lecture on various aspects of
Media Studies. My specialist subjects are emergent media, cyber/digital
culture, cybersexualities, deviant leisure, media networks, visual culture, art
practice and the digital future. I am also interested in notions of creativity
and interdisciplinarity, and exploring approaches as to how practice informs
theory. I also continue to follow traditional Fine Art practice with ongoing
paintings, drawings, installations and film making as well as continuing
writing published articles on research. My early Fine Art degree
installation using Virtual Reality to explore sexuality is cited as a notable
example of its time by Professor Steve Dixon (2007) in Digital Performance: A History of New Media Theater, Dance, Performance
Art, and Installation. MA USA. MIT
Press. I have lectured and broadcast world wide on my
interests.
I am currently in phased retirement having been Course Leader for the Media Studies and Digital Practice BA(Hons) undergraduate degree, and remain as Senior Lecturer for Media Studies at the School of Film, Media and Communication, Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries, Portsmouth University. I have lectured and taught creative practice and theory for over 30 years, and have been External Examiner for digital and creative practice degrees at Hertfordshire, Brighton, Swansea and Middlesex Universities.
